No. 885 is a traditional paste wax known for maximum durability and long-lasting protection. No. 925 is a liquid wax that offers similar marine-grade protection with easier application, especially on larger surfaces.
Number 885 and No. 870 are designed for different purposes. No. 870 Fleetwax Cleaner-Wax is an all-in-one cleaner and protectant that helps remove light oxidation, stains, and surface imperfections while leaving behind protection. No. 885 Fleetwax Paste is a pure protective wax intended for clean, restored surfaces where maximum durability is the goal.
Number 885 Fleetwax Paste is a protective wax and does not contain cleaning abrasives designed to remove oxidation. For oxidized gelcoat, the surface should first be restored using an appropriate marine compound such as 631 Fleetcut or 920 Fiberglass cleaner before applying No. 885. Applying wax to a properly prepared surface allows it to deliver the best gloss, bonding, and durability.
Application frequency depends on usage, climate, and exposure to the elements. For most boats, applying No. 885 once or twice per boating season provides excellent protection. Vehicles or boats exposed to harsh sun, saltwater, or frequent washing may benefit from additional applications throughout the year.
Number 885 can be used on many smooth fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces, but caution should be used on textured non-skid areas. Wax can sometimes leave residue in the texture and may make some surfaces slippery. For non-skid areas, use a product specifically intended for those surfaces or test a small area first.
Yes. Number 885 can be applied with a dual-action polisher using a soft finishing pad to help spread a thin, uniform layer. Machine application can save time on larger boats and vehicles, but hand application remains a popular and effective method. Regardless of application method, the key is to apply a thin coat and allow proper drying before removal.

For gel coated surfaces nothing out last Fleet Wax paste. I’m a 20 year ship wright for a marina in the Great Lakes. All the boats I buff get coated with Fleet Wax after. The vessels that have yearly maintains coats seem to get easier to clean and rewax every year. After a few coats it’s durable long lasting professional finish.

I’ve used this wax in the Great Lakes for about 15 years, It’s tuff to apply but it’s worth the effort. Will last the entire boating season.

I’ve been using Collinite 885 on all of my vehicles since 1980. It’s suppose to be used primarily for boats but it’s excellent for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited and my 2003 Harley-Davidson Road King! I’ve never experienced a wax that offers so much protection! The shine is incredible and when it rains, the surface beads up like No tomorrow! In my opinion, there is no better wax than Collinite waxes!
